Cutting the Dead Weight; Red Wings' 2021 UFA's and RFA's

The Red Wings season, depending on how pessimistic you are, has been done for a while. It’s now time to plot out some offseason moves for the Wings and what will fit for the Yzerplan of Red Wings GM, Steve Yzerman. We’ll go through the list of Unrestricted Free Agents and Restricted Free Agents who are currently Red Wings and decide who we are going to let go and who we want to think about keeping.

Mocking Up the Draft and Staggering to the Finish Line

The Wings are in the middle of someone else’s playoff race and are not fairing well. In the midst of a four-game stint with the Dallas Stars, the Wings have dropped the first two contests, allowing the Stars to jump into the 4th place position (from a points % perspective). Can the Wings play spoiler for the final two games?

We also look ahead to the NHL Draft and try to get familiar with a few prospects by a means of seeing who would be available after playing with the NHL Draft simulator.

Ranting on Red Wings with Darren McCarty

We’re still coming down from the ‘high’ that was Trade Deadline Day with Darren McCarty! We discuss the perspective from the former Red Wing Grind Line Superstar, his thoughts on his legacy, starting a cannabis company, and a bit of pro wrestling too.

There’s also a special bonus wrap-up, thanks to Natural Stat Trick, of the series with the Chicago Blackhawks and how that went so far in the wrong direction.

Elite Level Yzerplan-ing on Trade Deadline Day

With the Yzerplan fully engaged, Steve Yzerman pulls off a major heist in Washington DC, sending Anthony Mantha to the Capitals in exchange for Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik, a 1st Round Pick in 2021 and a 2nd Round Pick in 2022.

In what many consider to be a ‘WIN’ for Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings, we discuss why the trade of Mantha was such a huge win and what it means for the Franchise going forward.

Yzerplan ACTIVATE and Wings 'Erne’ Another Win

The Yzerplan Initiative has been reactivated and the Red Wings collect a couple of 4th round picks while effectively losing ONLY Patrick Nemeth and around $1 Million.

We’re happy to discuss another goal from Adam Erne, and the shootout winner from our new super-duper star.

Adam Erne Shines Again but Sloppy Shootout Dooms Detroit

We’re happy to discuss another goal from Adam Erne, the worst-looking two-round of shootout I’ve seen in a long time, more Flyers and Red Wings trades, and the COVID situation in the NHL.

Red Wings Shutout in Games, But Not in NHL Headlines

The Red Wings are right in the middle of the Tim Peel Hot Mic fiasco in loss to Nashville Predators. Time to dole out hot takes in regards to game management and fan reaction. We also have new NHL Draft Lottery rules that probably wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Red Wings rough 2019-20 results. We are happy to welcome the Athletic’s Scott Wheeler to the show to talk Red Wings prospects, developing NHL players, and binging WandaVision.

Red Wings Trade Talk and Splitting with Dallas

We’re discussing the prospect of trading Anthony Mantha for Jake “Mister” Bean, Cole Caufield, and Bowen Byram and whether a 1-for-1 is enough.

Also, the Red Wings are above .500 since the mid-point of the season and now have wins over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Dallas Stars. None of these games have been easy for Detroit, but they march on regardless.

We have a new injury situation with Jonathan Bernier being out and Blashill’s latest discussion on Bertuzzi is puzzling, to say the least.

Larkin Leads Wings Over Canes Again

The Red Wings get 5 points of a possible 10 in the hardest stretch of the season. The 4-2 win over the Hurricanes was a showcase for Adam Erne (2G), Filip Hronek (1G 2A), and the Captain, Dylan Larkin (2A).

Red Wings Beat Lightning but Fans are Still Upset

The Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, with room to spare! In what ends up being Tampa Bay’s worst two-game stretch of goaltending all season, the Red Wings come away with 3 points against the league’s best!

We also discuss what Red Wings fans think of Evgeny Svechnikov’s demotion to the AHL and what you want to see the NHL change, now that they’re working with ESPN.

Detroit Red Wings 2021 Midseason Grades

Where do the Red Wings Stand at the midpoint? Where do struggling forward grade, like Anthony Mantha? Does Filip Zadina’s latest surge makeup for a quiet start? Are Bernier and Greiss doing enough? Every player is graded with a very thorough explanation from Red Wings Rant and the Brothers of Discussion.
