Red Wings Shutout in Games, But Not in NHL Headlines
Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 31 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.
The Red Wings are right in the middle of the Tim Peel Hot Mic fiasco in loss to Nashville Predators. Time to dole out hot takes in regards to game management and fan reaction.
We also have new NHL Draft Lottery rules that probably wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Red Wings rough 2019-20 results.
We are happy to welcome the Athletic’s Scott Wheeler to the show to talk Red Wings prospects, developing NHL players, and binging WandaVision.

Hello, World!
NHL Draft Lottery
The lottery will determine only the first two picks in the draft, rather than having three different lotteries for the first three picks.
Teams can move up a maximum of 10 spots by winning one of the two lotteries. Hence, only 11 of the 16 teams that miss the playoffs will be eligible for the first overall pick.
A franchise can win the lottery no more than twice in a five-year span. That isn't exclusive to the first overall pick: It means a team can't advance by reason of lottery win more than twice in a five-year span
Tim Peel Fired for Hot-Mic Comment
Comment to Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators: "it wasn't much, but I wanted to get a f---ing penalty against Nashville early."
Game Management is a common issue in all sport. The issue garners more concern because of other variables, like the fact that he made such a casual remark to Forsberg is very telling of how aware the league and players are of this issue.
Can you call every penalty on the ice? No…but listen to the whole show to hear our thoughts!
Red Wings Sign D Seth Barton to ELC
Seth Barton was a 2018 3rd round pick for the Detroit Red Wings. He has played for U-Mass-Lowell for the last three years. In his most recent season, he currently has 20 games played with 11 points. While we’d love to have more data to help us figure where he is at defensively, we are limited by the Elite Prospects listing of a minus 8 (for +/-).
Barton is likely headed to the AHL. It’ll be interesting to see, after the trade deadline, how many different opportunities open up for current Red Wings prospects, and Barton himself.
