Red Wings 2021 NHL Draft: What to do with Pick 22 Part I

In today’s episode, we go back to the 2021 NHL Draft and highlight a few possibilities at pick 22 for you to get familiar with.

The Red Wings will be in “outsmart” everyone mode, the further into the draft they go. Depending on what Steve Yzerman sees as the ‘best fit and what Kris Draper, Hakan Andersson, and the rest of the Amateur scout staff see talent-wise.

Which Stanley Cup Semi Final Team Should the Red Wings Emulate?

We celebrate a Detroit Franchise finally landing the number one pick in a draft lottery and how massive the effect will be for the Detroit Pistons. Also, we compare the rebuilds and timetables for both the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings.

With the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, and Vegas Golden Knights all sniffing the Stanley Cup Finals, we ask which team the Red WIngs would be best to emulate or recreate.

Red Wings 2021 NHL Draft: William Eklund

If the draft were to follow the NHL Prospects’ Rankings, found on Elite Prospects, the Red Wings should continue their trend of drafting Swedish Prospects, like in 2020 when the Red Wings drafted Lucas Raymond, William Wallinder, and Theodor Neiderbach and the draft William Eklund with the number 6 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

We discuss why Eklund is the right pick for the Detroit Red Wings. What did Eklund’s coaches have to say about him? What Eklund’s top skills? We also present William Eklund highlights from the 2020-21 season to help you make your own judgment.

Jesper Wallstedt: The 6th Pick in the 2021 NHL Draft?

After discussing all of the real possibilities for the Red Wings and their 6th pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, one name kept popping up in the comments and tweet replies: Jesper Wallstedt. Should the Red Wings take a flyer on Jepser Wallstedt? Is Jesper Wallsetedt worth the risk for any NHL Franchise? Does it make sense for the Red Wings to draft Jesper Wallstedt? Why is drafting a goaltender in the first round so risky? Is Wallstedt good enough to decrease the risk when drafting him in the 1st round?

Red Wings 2021 Draft: Who will be Best Available

Now that we know the Red Wings are going to be drafting at the 6th spot, who should they draft. One would argue that the 2021 NHL Draft does not have a clear-cut number one draft pick. That being said, we have almost no idea who is going to fall to number 6. So I took a look at the draft from different prospect ranking pools, like Dobber, Elite Prospects, and TSN to find out who would be the ‘best available’ for the Detroit Red Wings to draft at the number 6 spot.

Trading Back and Drafting Chaz Lucius

Let’s find some prospects that the Red Wings can trade back for and still find a solid 1st round pick. We take a look at Chaz Lucius, the Center from Minnesota, who is a top 20 draft prospect in the 2021 NHL Draft. The Red Wings could gamble a trade for more draft picks and select Lucius later in the 1st round and be happy with a 6 foot tall Center with a great shot.

We also discuss when the Red Wings should make a big splash in the free agent market, for the likes of Elias Pettersson or Andrei Svechnikov. When is the right time for an NHL team to start spending and how far away are the Red Wings from that point?

Red Wings Selecting 6th in 2021 NHL Draft

The Red Wings are now selecting 6th in the NHL Draft, so we can finally try and piece together who the best draft pick is for that particular spot. Also, do the Wings benefit from trading back?

We’ll also touch on another Leaf’s implosion and the 2nd round of the NHL PLayoffs.

Jonatan Berggren Predicting the Opening Night Lineup

After signing Jonatan Berggren to his Entry-Level Contract, is there space for him to fit on the Opening Night Roster of the 2021 season? Could Berggren’s play-making ability fit perfectly with Jakub Vrana? Would Berggren need a big-bodied linemate like Michael Rasmussen? Who is the best center for Jonatan Berggren, between Fabbri, Larkin, and Veleno?

Jakub Vrana's New Contract

Time to dissect Jakub Vrana’s upcoming contract negotiations as I workshop arbitration potential and dollar value with myself. Will Vrana’s deal get Yzerplanned? Should Yzerman and Vrana head to arbitration? How will Vrana’s deal stack up with Anthony Mantha’s?

Trading Jack Eichel to the Detroit Red Wings

Today we discuss a trade for Jack Eichel and how far are we willing to go to add an elite forward of Eichel’s caliber? Would we take on a Jeff Skinner contract to ensure the prospect losses for Eichel don't result in losing Seider and Lucas Raymond? We also propose a couple of ideas and play 'Who Says No'.

We also discuss Jeff Blashill's contract.

And is the NHL the dumbest sports league for forcing the Vancouver Canucks and the North Division to complete the regular season?
