Red Wings Rant Episode 11
Dylan Larkin is the Captain
After a long time coming, the guy we all thought would eventually become Captain is in fact Captain of the Detroit Red Wings.
Dylan, who liked to be known as D-Boss on social media during his days from Waterford, MI, played for the University of Michigan and has earned the love and admiration from his teammates, his coaches, and the city of Detroit, is now living the role that he adopted for himself.
Larkin, Blashill, and Yzerman spoke of the new Captaincy and how he may have already been the captain before earning the ‘C’. Whether it was being the man to speak to the media after each tough loss or it’s putting a face on the locker room by helping young hockey players learn and volunteering around a city in much need of his help.
Dylan is one of the few hockey players in the NHL that understands what it means to be the Captain for the Red Wings and it shows on his face. Especially in the video below, where Larkin put on the jersey for a quick photo shoot.
If there was ever a ‘no-brainer’ decision in sports, it was making Dylan Larkin the Captain of this franchise. I look forward to supporting him and supporting a team that keeps impressing me with one decision after another.
Red Wings Lineups (From Max Bultman)
Bertuzzi-Larkin-Mantha
Namestnikov-Fabbri-Zadina
Bromé-Filppula-Gagner
Nielsen-Glendening-Erne
Ryan (no contact)-Rasmussen-Smith
Nemeth-Hronek
DeKeyser-Merrill
Staal-Stecher
Biega-Lindstrom
During the podcast, we discussed the biggest question mark, for us, is the third line. I don’t know how y’all feel, but at any one time, we could be forced to watch Gagner, Filppula, and Marc Stall all at once. I am hopeful that the likes of Rasmussen or GIavani Smith get a chance
Still, we’re not gonna see a really fun lineup until next season (Jonatan Berggren, Lucas Raymond, Elmer Soderblom, and Moritz Seider). Until then, this team looks destined to struggle at the bottom of the lineup.
Carolina Hurricanes
National Perspective on Carolina Hurricanes:
Picked to go 1st-3rd finish in Central Division
Goaltending seems to be the biggest issue (Petr Mrazek .905 and James Reimer .914)
Strong defense coupled with major puck possession monsters.
Last Season vs Red Wings
Hurricanes 3-0-0
11-1-2019, 7-3
11-24-2019, 2-0
3-10-2020, 5-2
4.67 - 1.67 average score
Corsi: CAR-DET in 2019-20
GM1 34-27
GM2 52-37
GM 3 36-47
The big issue isn’t who the better team is. It is most definitely the Carolina Hurricanes. From a perspective of playing back-to-back games and making adjustments, the Red Wings have the potential to play a strong enough game on defense and couple it with strong goaltending to split the season series.
We are predicting Filip Zadina and Anthony Mantha to have a huge game one and two, but as discussed in the preview, watch out for the 3rd and 4th lines to be the difference-maker, allowing for Carolina to potentially dominate.
