Elmer Soderblom and Red Wings Prospects WOW at World Juniors
Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 7 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.
Let’s talk about World Juniors again and who was successful during the Preliminary Rounds, so far.
Team Sweden saw Red Wing support from Albert Johansson, Teddy Niederbach, and Lucas Raymond. But everyone wants to talk about that between the legs goal by Elmer Soderblom.
And we’re going to wind the clock back to 2014 and watch Gustav Nyquist single-handedly defeat the Ottawa Senators after a 28-second long possession.
We are also continuing our Rochester Mills 12 Days of Christmas sampling with the Red Velvet Milkshake Stoutt, ‘Paul Woods’ returns to play Who is That Pokemon, and play Be the GM.
ON THIS DAY
Gustav Nyquist rags the puck for 28 seconds to score OT Winner against the Ottawa Senators, back in 2014.
Red Wings Recalled
From @DetroitRedWings: The Detroit #RedWings today recalled forwards Mathias Brome, Michael Rasmussen, and Filip Zadina and defensemen Filip Hronek and Gustav Lindstrom from their respective European Club loans.
BE THE GM
Red Wings at the World Juniors
Team Sweden
Elmer Soderblom dazzles at 6’8” with one goal and assist.
Raymond 1A, Niederbach 1G, and Johansson (uncredited Assist and +1)
Team Finland
Emil Viro +1
Team Czech
Jan Bednar might get a chance after the Czechs get lit up by Sweden, but has yet to play.
The mind-blowing performance was by Elmer Soderblom, on December 26th. What the IIHF already dubbed a contender for ‘Goal of the Tourney’, Elmer proved he is more than just a big body, using his hands and eyes to make space, enter the zone, and score this beauty of a goal, between the legs:
It’s only a couple of days in and there is plenty of potential for slip-ups and mistakes to sneak their way into Soderblom’s performance, but for a 6th round pick by the Red Wings in 2019, this is surely something to be excited about.
Rochester Mills 12 Days of Christmas - English Toffee Milkshake Stout
The Brothers of Discussion are excited and proud to present their first beer tasting of the network. We’re going festive for the holiday season and decided to sample Rochester Mills’ 12 Days of Christmas Beer Package. The Brothers will be tasting the beers for a flavor match to the beer’s name, drinkability, the packaging, and provide an overall score (weighted by the drinkability).
Rochester Mills is a Michigan Brewery, famous in the state for its 12 Days of Christmas Box Set. Released on an annual basis, the brewery tinkers with the list of 12 beers, but always follows through with a smooth, milk-like base.
English Toffee Milkshake Stout - Toffee is a confection made by caramelizing sugar or molasses along with butter, and occasionally flour. The mixture is heated until its temperature reaches the hard crack stage of 149 to 154 °C. While being prepared, toffee is sometimes mixed with nuts or raisins.
More fun
We play another round of Who’s That Pokemon and Mike asks Matt to try and create a case for anyone else on the Red Wings to become the Captain besides Dylan Larkin.
