How could I wait so long to write an article about the eventual Universal Champion? Well…I kinda wrote one a week ago, hoping Kevins Owens will be crowned Universal Champion, but now is the time for my official pick. Folks! Kevin Owens is winning two matches at SummerSlam this Sunday. He’s going to beat Braun Strowman and then he’s walking out with the Universal Championship when he cashes in that Money in the Bank!
Boom! I said it!
Wait…you were already thinking it? Everyone has been saying this for weeks?
Damn’t…
Well. I’m throwing my hat in the ring anyway.
Look, if you’re not on board with Kevin Owens beating Braun Strowman, then let me remind you that this is the alternative to Roman Reigns, so you should be happy. Also! There is NO WAY, that Braun goes through the entire fall without winning the Universal Championship. So, whatever you wanted…it’s going to happen eventually. Just, not on Sunday.
And this won’t make Braun Strowman look weak at all. There are so many stipulations and third parties involved that Braun is going to look strong no matter what. I won’t be surprised if Owens and his new buddies are left decimated in the ring, when all is said and done. But those beatings will only act as a punishment for taking away Braun’s briefcase.
And going a step further with Braun Strowman…you don’t want him cashing in the Money in the Bank. He needs to destroy his fresh opponents (like he will with Owens). He’s the monster, not the assassin. He stomps through forests, kicks down doors, and carries your lady to the top of the Empire State Building. Having him pick up the scraps is more vulture like than monster like. Braun will get his day and it’ll be way more respectful than this.
Like I said before, this isn’t a surprise to most wrestling fans, that I’m leaning this way. I’ve been talking on the podcast, for a while now, that Kevin Owens was billed to be the Universal Champion at some house shows coming up in September. I know these reports have been wrong before, but now that Owens has a chance at the briefcase and I’m sure the WWE doesn’t want a chorus of boos for Roman Reigns to end the night, it seems to be in the cards.
Kevin will make you proud (to those of you non-believers). He will honor what it means to be a true heel and he’ll make you hate him for taking Strowman’s shot away. But from my perspective…Owens is going to be my hero. For taking Roman’s title away.
