Bludgeon Brothers to Continue Their Domination? And is There Something More for the New Day?

This happens to be yet another SummerSlam match that revolves around the issue of one side holding the title too long and the other giving the face a victory. The match between the New Day and the Bludgeon Brothers draws tiny similarities to Brock vs Roman, Bliss vs Rousey, and even the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship triple threat. How long is too long for the heel to hold onto the title?
For the Bludgeon Brothers, I’m not sure they are there yet, because of how dominant they can be in their matches. What I mean is, someone like Carmella is holding onto the title because she’s crafty and sneaky. The same goes for Alexa Bliss. But when you look at the Bludgeon Brothers, it's a completely different story.
Week to week the Bludgeon Brothers take out their opponents with relative ease. Even when they come into a bout being outnumbered. I mean...they carry huge mallets to the ring for a reason. It shows how strong they are as well as representing their ‘hammering down’ of the SmackDown tag division. The mallet is a very simple tool, but extremely effective for what its used for. The Bludgeon Brothers are one in the same with their mallets, because they are built to win matches and it gets done with raw power and force. And that’s it.
Because the bludgeon brothers are so different and dominant they are able to continue their winning ways and don’t have to worry about “go away heat”. Rather, the bludgeon brothers have to worry about getting stale. The fact that their characters are successful because of their brute strength and ability to overpower challengers is a double edged sword. The one side of the sword plunges into their weekly SmackDown opponent and the other side pierces deep into the brains of the SmackDown viewer.
Obviously that’s not the normal use a for the term “double edged” sword but what I want to convey is the idea that a tag team based off of raw power and strength can surely be dominant but also...very boring. So the question is, how long can a team continue to dominate as such and not push the fans away? That isn’t to say that we are at that point, but how long until this pot of water hits the boiling point?
For the New Day it’s the complete opposite. They’re so charismatic, fun, exciting and entertaining that they bring interest and flare to whatever they participate. On top of that, they keep it interesting for however long they are in the main event picture. Knowing that they are so over and don’t need to hold the tag titles, doesn’t necessarily mean the bludgeon brothers will win. What it does mean is we definitely don’t need to fabricate an argument about how badly the New Day needs a victory. The only real consideration here is if it is time to reset the Tag division and give us a tiny bit of space from the Bludgeon Brothers.
Now, my next point is definitely controversial...so be ready. I’ve talked a long time about taking the New Day out of the tag division and placing them...in the main event! I can admit that this is a crazy and out of the box idea. But the WWE is in need of a more diverse cast in the main event and the fans are dying for something new and different as their main attraction. And I can’t, for the life of me, think of a more suited team to give this a shot.
Now I’m not bringing up any shocking statements here, but it has to be recognized how popular and ‘over’ this team is. But if you’re new to wrestling, here’s an example of how ‘over’ they are:
The New Day are so ‘over’ (fake crowd yells: “How over are they”) They are so over that Vince McMahon allowed them to bring together the brands of the WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling onto to the same stage for the sake of brand awareness. Not even the WWE’s brand awareness, but for Xavier Woods (member of the New Day) could show off his gaming YouTube channel to the world. This coming from the same Vince McMahon who spent years acting as though the WWE was the beginning and end of all wrestling. When the sheer mention of the IWGP Championship (a NJPW title) caused the WWE Universe to blow up the internet with false claims of a partnership. Of course, Wrestle Kingdom (NJPW’s version of WrestleMania) and international sales were enough to stop Vince from ignoring them, but he still refuses to acknowledge any feud or past battles that certain wrestlers had (at NJPW) and maybe that's still enough to help make my point.
If Vince can trust the New Day to make the WWE look strong while facing off against NJPW wrestlers on his YouTube channel, then I think this group has transcended enough time zones to warrant an opportunity at the WWE Championship.
Look...I’m going off the rails here and it’s easy to see that this has become my new cause to fight for...but it can work! You all know it can! But lets get bakc to the SummerSlam match.
So maybe I’m not arguing that the New Day are going to be our heroes, but maybe this is an opportunity for the Bludgeon Brothers to hit a whole different stratosphere by knocking off the one of the most ‘over’ tag teams...ever.
And honestly, the Tag Team championships have already been conquered by the New Day. And with the outcry of disappointment from the fans, when the New Day defeated the Bar t get this title opportunity, it’s clear to see that the SmackDown tag division is not in need of a hero right now. And if the fans want the Bar in the Champions scene, maybe its time for the New Day to take a step up (WWE Championship BABY!!!!!
They have so many different directions that they could choose to go in and ending the streak for the Bludgeon Brothers might be cutting off your nose to spite your face. There are other options for the Bludgeon Brothers(feuding with the Usos again and introducing themselves to the Bar) And on top of that, there are so many opportunities ahead for teams like Sanity and of course we’re going to need to find a place for the Undisputed era to thrive. Could it be SmackDown live?
The final point is, while the Bludgeon Brothers will get stale, it is not this day (or this Sunday). And the New Day have brighter horizons ahead of them. Let the Bludgeon Brothers continue their domination and let them continue to feast on the next challengers too!
AND PUT THE NEW DAY IN THE FREAKING MAIN EVENT ALREADY!!!!!
