Adam Erne Shines Again but Sloppy Shootout Dooms Detroit

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 35 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network.  Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

We’re happy to discuss another goal from Adam Erne, the worst-looking two-round of shootout I’ve seen in a long time, more Flyers and Red Wings trades, and the COVID situation in the NHL.

We also play everyone’s favorite game: Who’s That Pokemon! And a brand new game! Red Wing goal cameos all over the scoresheet tonight, can Matt match the “Cameo” cost to the player??

Red Wings vs Predators

The Red Wings lose in a shootout to the Nashville Predators

How did we lose?

Clearly, shootouts are not something the team practices a ton.

Larkin loses the puck on the first attempt

Greiss looks like a fool against Johansen

Zadina disappoints too

Wasted Power Play Time

The Predators finished with 10 attempts on net, resulting in a goal

Red Wings finish with 1 CF attempt in 3 minutes of PP time

Simply put, a z-score (also called a standard score) gives you an idea of how far from the mean a data point is.

COVID-19 in the NHL

Helene St. James reports Darren Helm only Red Wing to not get the vaccine.

“I'm not against it,” he said. “I had COVID early on, so I’m hoping I still have antibodies. I don’t really want to put that extra stress on my body. When the season is over, I’ll probably take a look at it.”

Should Helene put an asterisk on Helm’s comment or not even report this part of it? The point being, some folks are listening to these players. We discuss on the podcast if this was the best thing to put in an article.

The next line in the article: “Robby Fabbri, Adam Erne, Filip Zadina, Sam Gagner and Jon Merrill also have had to quarantine after testing positive.” Hopefully hinting that other players are getting the vaccine, despite having dealt with COVID-19 earlier in the season.

Sixteen of the 22 players on the Canucks' active roster were officially on the NHL's protocol list with Sunday's addition of forward Marc Michaelis and defenceman Jalen Chatfield. A member of the coaching staff had also been affected. (18 as of April 6th)
