Why Should Finn Balor Win the Intercontinental Championship?

Boy oh boy is it hard to figure out what the WWE wants to do with Finn Balor. A tease here and a tease there of his future and then BOOM! Finn goes in a completely different direction! And is now ready to face off against Seth Rollins and the champ, The Miz, in a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship.

Seth and the Miz have good reason to win, but here are my reasons why Finn Balor should be your Intercontinental Champion come Monday morning:

1.       Finn needs to get a good win streak going.

Let’s say Finn Balor loses this thing. Maybe he even takes the pin to the Miz or Seth. What next for Finn? If he goes off to another feud, do we care? Do we force ourselves to care because we know what a great wrestler Finn is? I mean…I did that with Dolph Ziggler long enough and I had to be told by friends to give it up. My fear is another loss will mean a further spiraling downward for the Demon and a potential need to reset his character (much like his former feud partner, Bray Wyatt).

The better solution is to put gold around Finn Balor’s waist and give him something to fight for (or defend). I don’t want to see another great wrestler fall to “average” because of his past injuries or the Chairman’s own short sightedness. Let Finn win this title, prove he can defend it long term, and put the damn guy OVER!

2.       If we’re going Balor Club, give it some gold.

Going a step further into what would be next for Finn Balor, regardless of the win, is the Balor Club. The Balor Club might feel like a desperate move to make three very good wrestlers seem interesting. The Balor Club should feel more like a champion faction (like the respect I give to the Undisputed Era) and that starts by having Finn Balor roll in with the Intercontinental Championship.

The Tag Titles would be a welcome addition, but the Intercontinental Championship would be the best way to get this faction moving now and with its best foot forward. I just don’t want this faction to start and then end up falling flat because all of these guys are on losing streaks and continue to lose.

3.       Finn can be good or bad (or straddle the line as gray), so options aplenty for future feuds!

Talking about the Balor Club brings up the idea of whether or not Finn Balor needs to be a face. I think the mask of the Balor Club puts Finn in that nice ‘Gray area’ where he doesn’t need to make Heel or Face decisions (like Stone Cold), but he can be cockier and intimidating for whoever he is to feud with. Something that would work well for a solo feud with the Miz or Seth Rollins.

The options are exponentially increased when you have a guy with a ‘Gray area’ character.

Ultimately, I have decided I will be happy with any of these guys winning the title. This WrestleMania is truly shaping up to be something special and to know there are so many matches that will provide good ol fashioned wresting is a wonderful thought.

Enjoy the show and tell us who you think should win the Intercontinental Championship!
